Corey vs Ledford, Deck vs Privette
in TPC semi-finals Sunday morning

Chattanooga TPC Sponsors

Three time TPC champion ('93, '95 and '96)
advances to semi-finals
with 3&1 victory over Thomas Smith

Chase Deck walked to the No. 18 tee all square with Tyson Elliott on Saturday afternoon in a Chattanooga TPC quarterfinal at the Council Fire Golf Club.

“I knew that hole owed me one,’’ Deck said. “I didn’t play it well the entire Metro or in the CDGA 4-Ball.

Deck certainly played it well Saturday.

He blasted his driver, leaving himself only 202 to the pin. His 4-iron then settled inside 1-foot. He tapped in the eagle, and advanced to a semifinal.

“It was close,’’ Deck said. “Real close. And it was pretty cool. We had been battling it out all day.’’

Deck will face Greg Privette in a semifinal Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Privette advanced with a 5 and 4 victory over Matt Mathis.

The other semifinal will match previous champions Pat Corey and Bryce Ledford. Corey defeated Thomas Smith, 3 and 1, and Ledford coasted past Jay Goza, 7 and 6. Corey and Ledford will tee off at 8:20 a.m.

Ledford is the defending champion, while Corey won the title in 1993, ’95 and ’96.

After the semifinal matches, the finalists will tee off after lunch with the championship on the line.

“My matches have been really tough so far,’’ Deck said. “I’d like to get one like Bryce had today. But the eagle on 18 only put me to level par, and I’ll have to do better than that against Greg on Sunday. He was 4- or 5-under at one time on Saturday.

“I’ve just got to make some more birdies. That’s the key in match play.’’

Deck was 3 down after five holes Saturday, but rallied against Elliott.

“Sure, the eagle and the comeback give me a boost,’’ Deck said. “It shows my gut, my will and my ability to get a win.

“I’ve got to track my irons better. Of course, I guess I had that 4-iron locked in on 18 today.’’
